Copernicus Climate Change Service

The generation and the delivery of long term Climate Data Records describing the evolution of Essential Climate Variables (ECV) are performed by several consortia in the Copernicus Climate Change Service. The consortium C3S_Lot9, led by VITO, is in charge of the surface albedo, Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR) and Leaf Area Index (LAI). Its concept consists in:

  • maximizing the exploitation of the scientific and operational expertise within the Copernicus Global Land Service (CGLS)
  • extending the time series to the past and apply the same methods as in CGLS
  • securing continuation of the product by linking with CGLS

HYGEOS is involved in C3S_Lot9 consortium and contributes by:

  • the definition of atmospheric correction to apply to various sensors data, including the propagation of uncertainties, presented at LPV 2018.
  • performing the gap analysis to identify the opportunities and/or obstacles to improve in quality and fitness-for-purpose the CDRs and to make them fully compliant with the target requirements.
  • supporting VITO in the contract review management.
