style=\"--awb-content-alignment:justify;\"><p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/ember-climate.org\/insights\/research\/global-electricity-review-2023\/#chapter-5-electricity-source-trends-solar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study of the think-tank Ember<\/a>, \u201c<em>solar power produced 4.5% (1,284 TWh) of global electricity in 2022. Global solar electricity generation rose by 24% (+245 TWh), from 1,039 TWh in 2021 to 1,284 TWh in 2022. This was the 18<sup>th<\/sup> year in a row that solar was the fastest growing electricity source by year-on-year percentage change<\/em>.\u201d However, the performance of solar power plants significantly depends on weather conditions. Therefore, it is essential to understand and monitor the impacts of atmospheric conditions to manage efficiently the energy production and the operation of power systems.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-builder-row-inner fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start fusion-flex-content-wrap\" style=\"width:102% !important;max-width:102% !important;margin-left: calc(-2% \/ 2 );margin-right: calc(-2% \/ 2 );\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column_inner fusion-builder-nested-column-2 fusion_builder_column_inner_3_5 3_5 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-width-large:60%;--awb-margin-top-large:0px;--awb-spacing-right-large:1.6333333333333%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:0px;--awb-spacing-left-large:1.6333333333333%;--awb-width-medium:60%;--awb-order-medium:0;--awb-spacing-right-medium:1.6333333333333%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:1.6333333333333%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-order-small:0;--awb-spacing-right-small:0.98%;--awb-spacing-left-small:0.98%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-2 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\"><strong>HYGEOS provides the SolaRes service&#8230;<\/strong><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\" style=\"--awb-content-alignment:justify;\"><p>Thanks to its expertise in radiative transfer and atmosphere modelling, HYGEOS can offer the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hygeos.com\/en\/solares\/\">SolaRes\u00ae service.<\/a><\/strong> It aims at an <strong>operational worldwide<\/strong> provision of solar resource estimate <strong>both in near real time and on historical archive<\/strong> forms, for the needs of solar power operators. SolaRes\u00ae relies on the detailed simulations by the <a href=\"https:\/\/hygeos.com\/en\/smart-g\/\">SMART-G<\/a> software, a <strong>radiative transfer code<\/strong> conceived by HYGEOS. SMART-G is able to reproduce all the physical processes (absorption, scattering, transmission, reflection) resulting from the interactions of the sun radiation with the atmospheric components (molecules of water, ozone and other gases, various types of aerosols, cloud droplets) and the Earth&#8217;s surface. The starting point was the <a href=\"https:\/\/hygeos.com\/en\/news\/project\/asora\/\">ASoRA<\/a> project in collaboration with EDF: HYGEOS has studied the impact of aerosols on power generation by concentrated solar power plants. This activity has been supported by innovative research through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loa.univ-lille.fr\/documents\/LOA\/formation\/theses\/2021_Moulana.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PhD work.<\/a> The study aimed to reproduce the interactions between, on one hand, the solar radiation and, on the other hand, the atmosphere, the ground surface and any objects, in a 3D environment, to provide the best estimate of the solar resource in a solar tower power plant. This novel method estimates the solar radiant flux collected by the receiver of a solar power tower system, taking into account the detailed atmospheric radiative transfer. It has been published in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0038092X24003700?via%3Dihub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">peer-review journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>HYGEOS pursues the improvement of its tools by collaborations with research laboratories and industry. A study with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www-loa.univ-lille1.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laboratoire d&#8217;Optique Atmosph\u00e9rique<\/a> validates the SolaRes\u00ae output in clear-sky conditions. The performance in all-sky conditions were compared with public or industrial products in a Challenge organized by TotalEnergies and in the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.esa.int\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESA-funded<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/business.esa.int\/projects\/steadycast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SteadyCast<\/a> project.
