style=\"--awb-content-alignment:justify;\"><p>The global atmospheric composition forecasting system used operationally to provide <a href=\"https:\/\/atmosphere.copernicus.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CAMS<\/a> forecasts underwent an upgrade on 12<sup>th<\/sup> of November\u00a02024: cycle 49R1 of the Integrated Forecast System with atmospheric composition extensions (IFS-COMPO) has been successfully implemented and has replaced <a href=\"https:\/\/hygeos.com\/en\/cams-global-data-assimilation-and-forecasting-system\/\">cycle 48R1, which became operational on 27<sup>th<\/sup> of June 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/confluence.ecmwf.int\/display\/COPSRV\/Implementation+of+IFS+cycle+49r1+for+CAMS#ImplementationofIFScycle49r1forCAMS-Atmosphericcompositioncontentofthenewcycle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cycle 49R1<\/a> includes several key developments that HYGEOS coordinated or contributed to in the context of the <a href=\"https:\/\/hygeos.com\/en\/project\/cams-related-projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CAMS2_35 project<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Representation of the life cycle of stratospheric sulphate,<\/li>\n<li>Implementation and use of the simple thermodynamical module EQSAM4CLIM,<\/li>\n<li>Update of some of the aerosol properties<\/li>\n<li>Implementation of aspherical and hydrophilic desert dust<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An evaluation of cycle 49R1 IFS-COMPO simulated fields is provided in a <a href=\"https:\/\/hygeos.com\/en\/update_ifs-compo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently published paper<\/a> (R\u00e9my, et al., 2024) which showed very nice improvements in the simulation of PM2.5 (figure below) as well as that of surface nitrate and ammonium.\u00a0 Cycle 49R1 IFS-COMPO also allows for the experimental output of aerosol, cloud and precipitation pH.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a
