style=\"--awb-content-alignment:justify;\"><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/land.copernicus.eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Copernicus Land Monitoring Service<\/a> has recently released global vegetation properties products giving insight into continental ecosystems status. The Version 2 of <a href=\"https:\/\/land.copernicus.eu\/en\/products\/vegetation\/leaf-area-index-v2-0-300m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Leaf Area Index<\/strong> (LAI)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/land.copernicus.eu\/en\/products\/vegetation\/fraction-of-absorbed-photosynthetically-active-radiation-v2-0-300m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation<\/strong> (FAPAR)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/land.copernicus.eu\/en\/products\/vegetation\/fraction-of-green-vegetation-cover-v2-0-300m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Fraction of green vegetation cover<\/strong> (FCOVER)<\/a> are derived from PROBA-V and Sentinel-3 OLCI data at 300m resolution. They cover the period from 2014 to the present at a 10-days frequency.<\/p>\n<p>In the context of its <a href=\"https:\/\/hygeos.com\/en\/project\/continental_ecosystems_monitoring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">land monitoring activities<\/a>, HYGEOS has coordinated the work between experts from the Centre for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.creaf.cat\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CREAF<\/a>) who have developed the products, <a href=\"https:\/\/remotesensing.vito.be\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VITO<\/a> that operates the processing chain and <a href=\"https:\/\/eolab.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EOLAB<\/a> that performs the independent validation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-builder-row-inner fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start fusion-flex-content-wrap\" style=\"width:102% !important;max-width:102% !important;margin-left: calc(-2% \/ 2 );margin-right: calc(-2% \/ 2 );\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column_inner fusion-builder-nested-column-2 fusion_builder_column_inner_1_3 1_3 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-overflow:hidden;--awb-bg-color:var(--awb-custom_color_1);--awb-bg-color-hover:var(--awb-custom_color_1);--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-border-radius:15px 15px 15px 15px;--awb-width-large:33.333333333333%;--awb-margin-top-large:0px;--awb-spacing-right-large:2.94%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:0px;--awb-spacing-left-large:2.94%;--awb-width-medium:33.333333333333%;--awb-order-medium:0;--awb-spacing-right-medium:2.94%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:2.94%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-order-small:0;--awb-spacing-right-small:0.98%;--awb-spacing-left-small:0.98%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\" style=\"--awb-content-alignment:justify;\"><p>LAI and FAPAR are recognized as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gcos.wmo.int\/site\/global-climate-observing-system-gcos\/essential-climate-variables\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Essential Climate Variables<\/a><\/strong> by the <a href=\"https:\/\/gcos.wmo.int\/site\/global-climate-observing-system-gcos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Climate Observation System<\/a> (GCOS). Together with FCOVER, they describe structure, dynamics and health of vegetation. Indeed, LAI approximates the thickness of the canopy while the FCOVER quantifies the spatial extend of the green vegetation and FAPAR translates the photosynthesis activity of the plants. The variables are calculated by neural networks trained by sensor and vegetation type. Many pixel-level quality indicators are provided to support efficient use. Thus, they support a wide range of applications responding to key societal and environmental concerns. For instance, they allow to assess crop and grassland growth and yield,<strong> useful to early warning detection system<\/strong> and to define sustainable framing practices that contribute to food security.\u00a0 They also help to monitor the impact of fires, deforestation and landcover change, <strong>relevant for protecting biodiversity<\/strong> and addressing people\u2019s concerns about ecosystems degradation. In addition, their assimilation in land surface model improves the characterization of the hydrological cycle, energy and carbon fluxes. Thus, they contribute to <strong>better understand the ecosystems functioning and their responses to climate change<\/strong>. This is essential to develop appropriate strategies and policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to improve water-resource management.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-builder-row The products are accessible through the <a href=\"https:\/\/land.copernicus.eu\/en\/products\/vegetation\/fraction-of-absorbed-photosynthetically-active-radiation-v2-0-300m#download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>download options of the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem<\/strong><\/a> (CDSE).
