HYGEOS enters in the Copernicus Marine Service

The Copernicus Marine Service (CMS) is entering in its Phase 2 (2025-2028) and the consortia operating the various components of the service have been renewed. HYGEOS is now involved in the Ocean Colour Thematic Data Assembly (OC-TAC) which provides,  over the global ocean and the European regional seas, a set of the Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs) that can be retrieved from Ocean Colour radiometry derived from multiple satellite missions.

HYGEOS contribution relies on the Polymer software. In addition to the support to the NRT operations over the Baltic Sea, which use Polymer to perform the atmospheric corrections, many evolutions are planned during the three and a half years of the contract. New Sentinel-3C OLCI will be integrated to Polymer as well as the Ocean Colour Instrument (OCI) of the NASA Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) mission. This will help all consortium partners to assess the potential of PACE-OCI for inclusion in the multi-sensor products. The operations of the OC-TAC will also benefit of the more modular architecture of the upgraded Polymer v5, currently in preparation.

HYGEOS scientists will participate in the Copernicus Marine Phase 2 Kick-Off event from January 28th to January 30th, 2025.
