Kick-Off Meeting of the CAMAERA project
The kick-off meeting of the Horizon Europe project CAMS AERosol Advancement (CAMAERA), led by HYGEOS, took place on 29th January 2024 with over 50 participants from countries and institutes all over Europe.
The CAMAERA projects involves 15 partners with the objective to provide strong improvements of the aerosol modelling capabilities of the regional and global systems of the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS), on the assimilation of new sources of data, and on a better representation of secondary aerosols and their precursor gases. CAMAERA will also foster exchanges between the regional and global components of the CAMS production system. The goal is to enhance the quality of key products of the CAMS such as PM2.5, PM10 and therefore help CAMS to monitor air pollutant.
In addition to the project coordination, HYGEOS will work on:
- the development of new desert dust and sea-salt aerosol emission schemes using machine learning approaches
- the intercomparison and evaluation of dry deposition models.
- the Biogenic Volatile Organic Compounds (BVOC), precursor of the Second Organic Aerosols (SOA). A new BVOC emission module will be developed and calibrated and its impact on simulated SOA will be evaluated.
CAMAERA will last 36 months until 31st December 2026.
CAMAERA is off to a good start !
